I once knew a stranger
This girl on my street
I’d walk out of my place
and smile when we’d meet
she talked and her voice
well, it sounded different and sweet
and we’d walk and I’d stare down
wanting to follow our feet
she would tell me things, secret
but just anything new
it seemed exciting and different
because of what, I only knew
another house on the block
where she’d wave and duck in
and I’d go home, and wonder
if the roof should cave in
kind of lonely, and awkward
just a weird stupid kid
and i once knew a stranger
so strange, that maybe, i guess
i never did
