Condition Oakland: A Novel

Every few days I’ll be posting a new chapter of my first novel work, ‘CONDITION OAKLAND: CONFESSIONS OF A NAÏVE PUNK WITH A HEART FULL OF ARSON, AND OH, HOW THE WORLD DOTH QUAKE & BURN’

The novel follows high school student and itinerant punk rocker Tim Davis, the frontman of the band DOWN WITH STRANGERS. They have a simple mission: To start a complete cultural revolution. Dressed to the 9’s in the alienation and loneliness, he came to dance, and he’ll be damned if you want to send him home for having his hair dyed. His heart bleeding down his sleeve, he stands side by side with his bandmates, Lane, Mark, and Sidney, with some good friends and music lovers gathered around, ready to get this shit started.

This Semi-Autobiographical Work was written shortly after I finished high school, and originally I self-published a 50 copy print run under my government name, in a different version, in 2004. I sold a few, gave most away, and didn’t do much else with it because I wasn’t happy with where it was at. It is now 2021, and I recently decided to post the novel with some slight revisions, but mostly as it was a few years ago when I left it. Trying to do something with this work again, I feel it may have something to say particularly to a young adult audience as the spirit of it is mainly how I was feeling right as I finished high school. I graduated in 2002, and things have changed a lot even in just this sense, particularly I imagine for young adults, of trying to get by, and Rock and Roll.
